Cool air moved along the shallow stream. June held a small notebook and a short pencil. She wanted to draw a bird on the rail.

A sparrow tried to perch on the feeder stand. June stepped closer and leaned on the low stand. Her pencil case slid and tapped a paper cup. The cup tipped and fell into the slow current.

The cup bumped leaves and pushed a thin twig. The twig cracked and slipped from the plank. A small toy boat slid out below the bridge.

Lyle stood by the path with a dry stick. "Did you see that boat?" Lyle said. June stepped to the other side of the plank. She crouched and reached low, then lifted the cup. She realized her sleeve was wet and cool. The toy boat drifted past the round rock.
