Steam rises; Cole walks to the sink.
A walk to the sink is short.
Sunlight warms the wooden counter.

A soap smell hangs near the tap.
He lifts a light plastic cup.
He reaches up for the handle.
His fingers touch smooth metal.
The tap is high for him.
A slow drip taps the cup.
He waits.
He cannot turn it.
The pot lid rattles softly.
A glass jar fogs, then clears.
The baby in a chair blinks.
"All good," says the grown-up.
He steps to the low step.
One foot lifts on it.
His arm reaches the handle now.
He turns it a little.
Water runs in a thin line.
He moves the cup under it.
He takes a drink.
Soap suds rest in the sink.
Water from the tap beads on the rim.
