The soft pillow presses Wanda's cheek.
A clean laundry smell rests here.
Warm light sits on the bed.
The water glass stays by it.
Wanda slides off the mattress.
She kneels on the thick rug.
She peeks under the bed.
A round wooden block lies.
Springy under knees.
Wanda crawls forward across the rug.
She reaches the low shelf.
Picture books line the wood.
A cover shows a bridge.
Another book hides part of it.
She bends lower and looks.
Closer now.
The whole bridge shows clearly.
From the hall, Faye says, "Good morning, Wanda."
"I am in the hall."
Wanda turns and pads back.
At the shelf, a small star marks a corner.
She steps along the rug.
Back by the bed, a circle dent sits.
Its edge presses the fibers flat.
Faye's sleeve slides out of the doorway.
