He sets it on the left.
He lifts a small yellow leaf.
Its edge is a little jagged.
He places it on the right.
Stella sits on the back step.
Her sketchbook page lifts once.
"My page flips," she says.
He holds a red-brown oval leaf.
He sets it in the middle.
His toe trips on a twig.
The toy chef pan bumps the row.
Leaves tilt.
The small leaf slides into a damp rim.
Water dots its smooth side.
He turns the toy pan sideways.
He makes a slow push.
He nudges the leaves back.
Each leaf lines up again.
Sun warms the flat edge.
