A single pink petal turns.
It swings under the branch.
Petals drift slowly.
Hugo stands by the bench.
The grandmother sits on it.

A picnic basket holds lunch.
The bench side is safe.
Hugo opens his small palm.
A cool petal lands there.
He lifts the petal up.
A damp print marks his skin.
He kneels at the lawn edge.
He looks close.
His knees press cool grass.
A pale drift lines the edge.
He slides a fingertip under petals.
They rise a little, slowly.
Dark grass waits under them.
He lays the petals back.
He touches the blanket corner.
The fold slips down at once.
"I see a fold," the grandmother says.
Her voice is calm and low.
He pinches two edges and lifts slowly.
A worn smooth seat shows under it.
A hidden petal rests there.
He sets the blanket back.
The petal is quiet again.
He tilts his palm and pilots the petal.
It slides to the open air.
The grandmother nods once.
Only soft sounds.
The grandmother rises; Hugo walks.
