Paper and Tray: A Swirl Lifted from Floating Ink -

English 原文
Flora stood at a shallow tray while Harriet stayed close beside her.
Earlier, they prepared the thick mix in the tray and set out small bottles.
A comb and a thin stylus lay between the tray and a neat stack of paper.
An old treadle frame held up the table, and its wheel rested under Harriet’s heel.
A faint starch smell rose from the surface, and the rim felt cool on Flora’s wrist.
Flora drew up blue ink with a pipette and let one drop fall.
It spread wide and thin, holding a round field on top of the mix.
She added yellow near the edge; the circles pressed gently against each other.
The stylus touched the surface with a slow drag, and soft lanes began to swirl.
A tiny bubble popped near the corner and left a clean pale circle.
Harriet rocked her heel; the treadle hummed, and a faint tremor ran through the frame.
The floating edges wobbled once, then steadied into long, running lines.
Those lines bent into small, wistful loops where the colors met.
Harriet set her hand over Flora’s, and together they lowered a sheet from one edge.
The paper touched the floating color, and the color rose into its fibers.
Clear size slipped away below, and a print formed in one steady breath.
They lifted the sheet.
Blue and yellow curves crossed like handwriting, and the pale ring sat bright over a dark band.
The tray showed faint ghosts where the color had gone, waiting for new drops.
Harriet carried the wet sheet to a wooden slat above the tray and left it to drip.

Flora
