Cool air came across the water.

It was early October, and the sky looked bright. Milo walked along the wide shore with a small bucket. His goal was simple: build a low wall from shells. Each wave slid in, leaving wet sand like new paper. Then the water pulled back, and dry grains loosened. Milo watched the change twice before touching a single shell.

He waited until the third wave spread over the ground. While the sand stayed heavy, he pressed each shell deep. Water cooled his fingers, but the line began to form. Soon the water rolled away again, showing the curved wall. The pattern looked amazing against the pale sand. No grain moved because shells now gripped the wet layer. A nightingale landed nearby and pecked at tiny insects. Its small jump sent light sand across the shiny shells. The alternating water returned, touching the strong wall, then slipping away. The bird hopped along the new ridge.

涼爽的空氣吹過水面。

十月的天空依舊明亮。米洛拿著小桶走在寬闊的海岸上。他的目標很簡單：用貝殼築一堵低矮的牆。每一道浪花湧上來，留下像新紙一樣的濕沙。接著海水退去，乾沙鬆動。米洛看著這變化兩次，才碰第一顆貝殼。

他等到第三道浪花鋪滿地面。趁沙子仍然沉重，他把每顆貝殼深深壓進去。水沖涼了他的手指，但長列開始成形。很快海水再次退去，彎牆顯現。那圖樣在淺色沙面上看起來十分驚豔。因為貝殼緊抓濕層，沙粒沒有移動。一隻夜鶯落在附近，啄著小昆蟲。牠輕輕一跳，細沙飛過閃亮的貝殼。海水再度來回，碰觸堅固的牆後又溜走。那隻鳥沿著新的脊線跳躍前行。
