First, he reaches with his hand.

Next, he pokes with a stick.
The stick is too short today.
Peace hangs over the slow river.
Then, he ties a safety rope.
He swings the rope wide now.
The loop lands around the boat.
Water pulls, but he holds fast tight.
Slowly, the boat slides closer.
Rain grows harder on the river.
He lifts the wet toy up.
Ocean foam sticks on its side.
He sets it on the grass bank.
The rope stays in calm water.
