A small red ball peeks under the hedge. Fiona kneels on the path. She stretches an arm forward. The air smells of cut grass. Her lunch box sits open nearby. A tasty grape rests inside. The lunch smells yummy already. A bright carrot stands beside it. Parents sell old toys near the gate.

She pokes the ball with a twig. Nothing moves at all. She slides a long stick deeper. The stick slips off. She rolls a pebble toward it. The pebble taps the ball. The ball shifts into light. Fiona lifts the ball up. Another child claps once. "Thank you," the child says. Fiona places the ball on bench. Her grape and carrot stay untouched. The red ball gleams on the bench.
