Soft fabric touches Ruby's sleeve. She sits on the window seat. Grey light rests over the wood. A glass of water stands near her knee. The foggy window shows only white. Ruby lifts the dry cloth. She rubs a round circle on the glass. The cool mist slides away. Through the clear spot she sees a plant. Rain tracks crawl down, closing the view again.

Ruby shifts. She peers through a gap between curtain and wall. Inside the hallway, Max presses animal stickers. One walrus sticker sits high. A seal sticker sits low. An octopus sticker wiggles under his thumb. The rain rhythm echoes softly. Suddenly the damp air loosens the sticker. The walrus drifts and lands over Ruby's circle. It blocks the grey garden. Max says, "Oops!" Ruby laughs. She hops off the cushion. Max walks down the hall.
