English 원문
A rust-coloured ribbon slipped through the funnel and the dish behind it showed only three spoonfuls left, a visible ultimatum against the shrinking space inside the bright glass bottle. Vita steadied the bottle with one palm; glare from the skylight ran along the curved wall and magnified every ripple. Beside the neck, a ginger cat lounged in a shaft of light, its whiskers forming thin shadow-edges on the table. Vita pressed a narrow stick downward to transform that fresh layer into feathers. The stick had been withdrawn too quickly, and mixed grains dragged upward, leaving a jagged silhouette that caught reflected gleam from the window. Fine sand hissed, coarse sand rattled, and a low drone from the ceiling fan hovered over the funnels.
She tried again. This time the stick slid slower, the glow on the glass guiding her line. The gentle vibration startled a tiny moth resting on the lampshade; the moth burst into the overexposed air, an ephemeral flash of wings that drew the cat’s attention. The cat sprang, its paws thumping into the wooden cradle that held the sand dishes. One shallow dish rocked, coarse grey grains tumbling toward the funnel and rattling against the bottle. Vita’s elbow shot forward just in time to block the dish; her other hand wrapped around the bottle to stop a wider tilt. Spilled grains settled into pooled darkness near the funnel mouth, but the main column stayed intact, a faint diagonal feather now visible where the second insertion had travelled deeper. June whispered, "Easy now." Vita gave a slow nod; warmth from the lamp haloed the new pattern while lower layers, compressed by the added weight, thinned further. She corked the neck gently, leaving space for air. Beneath the table, the cat’s tail flicked once, and a thin trickle of escaped sand continued sliding off the edge, grains pattering in a steady line onto the dim floorboards.
