Katia speaks, "Foam runs back."
The lifeguard scans the foam line slowly.
Near the rocks, a crab stops.
It sits on a slick rock.
A driftwood log rests in dry sand.
A dark burn mark crosses it.
Sand drifts between boardwalk gaps.
A thin sun beam slips through.
A small square of light appears.
It lies on her knee.
Katia looks down at the shape.
By her knee, salt air and seaweed smells mix.
