Morning light stretched along the riverbank as Elias balanced his sketchbook on his knees. He had spent all morning planning a drawing of the old stone bridge for the class exhibition. Gray clouds drifted slowly, and the scene felt almost mundane, yet hidden shapes waited among the arches. He rubbed a stick of charcoal between his fingertips, enjoying the powdery touch that darkened his skin. The first bold line slid across the page. The tip snapped, leaving a jagged mark and a small cloud of dust. A faint metallic smell drifted from the waterwheel nearby, blending with damp clay underfoot.

Elias replaced the broken piece with another, yet the wind lifted the corners of the sketchbook like playful fingers. The sheet fluttered, smearing charcoal across the bridge tower he had already shaded carefully. If he had known the wind would rise, he would have chosen a quieter corner behind the reeds. Moments later, the sheet had been weighed down by smooth stones, yet it still trembled when a gust cut across the water.
