Lantern Before Dusk-

English 原文
Mia balanced a bamboo ring between her palms while Luka sorted thin paper sheets beside her. The school gym buzzed with weekend-fair energy; near the doorway younger pupils tried to hold hands yet kept slipping on bright confetti. Mia and Luka had spent the morning collecting materials, and the frame for their ambitious sky-lantern had been measured and tied before lunch. An old guiding principle from their science club echoed in Mia’s memory: experiment, observe, adjust. With that thought she flicked the first brush of glue onto the frame, pleased by the quick synergy of their movements. Luka steadied the ring, she pressed the paper, and colored panels began to surround the fragile skeleton like petals around a stem.
Laughter turned into a sharp gasp when a sudden draft pushed through the open window; one corner of a panel lifted and tore along the wet seam. Glue dripped onto the floor, and the lantern sagged. If they had left the damage unchecked, the lantern would have collapsed during the evening lighting. Luka fetched fresh strips while Mia trimmed the frayed edge. Their first patch wrinkled, leaving a lopsided bulge, so they twisted the frame gently, then tried narrower strips. The paper still bunched. Only after they rotated the ring upside down and pressed from the inside did the surface smooth. Sweat dotted their foreheads; they exchanged a silent agreement when the repaired side finally shone flat.
Late afternoon light angled through high windows and struck the patched spot. Tiny gaps between overlapping layers scattered pinpoints across the ceiling; the unintended starfield felt transformative, turning the defect into decoration. Mia had never planned such a pattern, yet the accident offered a secret sparkle no design sheet could predict. Luka tipped the lantern to widen the gaps, and more dots danced above the bleachers. Their different choices, once clashing, now worked in easy rhythm, a quiet synergy born from trial rather than planning. As spectators drifted in, the finished lantern rested on the table, sending soft patterns across the gym floor.
