Seeds Inside the Paper Bird-

English 原文
Dawn still clung to a pale stripe above the community garden when Mira eased a tall papier-mâché ostrich from the van. Luca steadied the long neck; the two bodies moved in near-silence, boots whispering over gravel. The bird, built from biodegradable pulp, already showed faint blotches where dew had touched its painted feathers. With slow steps they guided it toward a folding display table bordered by trays of compostable seed pots.
The table objected at first. One leg caught in a groove between flagstones, tilting the surface so that a row of small herb signs slid sideways. Luca pressed his shoulder under the tabletop while Mira nudged the stuck leg; wood scraped, then settled flat. She tapped the surface twice, and the ostrich finally stood upright, towering above spearmint leaves that released sharp scent each time wind brushed them. Around the pair, early shoppers drifted through narrow aisles, sleeves brushing stalks heavy with last night’s rain.
A passing breeze gained strength without warning. It lifted the ostrich’s tail feathers, fluttering them like kites. A second gust followed, wobbling the entire sculpture. Mira lunged, palms catching the hollow belly just in time, yet a soft tearing sound escaped. The papier-mâché shell cracked along a seam, and pale pulp peeled back. Through the opening, dozens of tiny sunflower seeds poured out, rattling across the table before sprinkling onto the damp soil below. Shoppers paused; some leaned closer, eyebrows rising at the unexpected shower of seeds.
Thin drizzle arrived next, beading on Luca’s hair and turning the torn pulp blotchier. Water seeped into the biodegradable skin, encouraging wider splits. Within minutes the proud ostrich resembled a wilting lantern, but the seeds beneath it darkened, already drinking moisture. Mira knelt, spreading them into the loose earth with her fingertips. Luca fetched two of the compostable pots, tore their rims, and scattered the fragments among the seeds; the fiber mixed with soil, promising slow, enduring release of nutrients long after the paper vanished.
Rain thinned almost as quickly as it had appeared. Movement in the garden resumed, this time with careful steps around the improvised seed bed. Sunlight edged over greenhouse panels, sliding onto the scene. Soft light rested on damp soil around the toppled ostrich frame.
