Morning light filled the quiet harbor. Milo carried a light sketch board. He planned to draw the tall ship. Sea gulls circled above, calling in short sharp cries. He sat near a narrow stream beside the dock. Waves from the ocean moved gently beyond the wall. Salt smell mixed with the faint odor of rope. Milo opened his box of paper.

A sudden gust pushed the sheet toward the stream. The paper slid, tipped a small jar of paint. The jar rolled, hit a rope, and dropped overboard. Ripples spread and rocked an empty wooden crate nearby. The noisy splash amazed a brown dog on deck. The dog leaped, grabbed the floating sheet in teeth. It paddled back and dropped the paper near Milo. Milo caught the jar with a long net. He tossed the dog a cork ball. He placed the wet paper on the wooden plank.
