The Lights Nearly Fell- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Pale morning mist floated around the small garden table.

Milo carried a string of energy-saving lights toward the fence. He wanted to prepare Lily's birthday picnic before she woke. The plan seemed simple until the final hook felt short. The loose line slipped, touched a shelf, and shook three jars. One jar rolled off, hit a rubber ball, and set it racing. The ball crossed the path, and their cat sprinted after it. The cat bumped Milo's bucket of water, and drops splashed everywhere.

Milo wiped his hands and studied the messy ground. He moved the table under the fence, giving the lights more height. Standing on it, he hooked the gentle bulbs through a metal ring. The cord now reached easily, and the jars stayed still. Mist still floated while each bulb gave a quiet glow. Lily stepped outside, her eyes wide, and she clapped twice. Milo watched her enjoy the glowing row near their chairs. He set the small cake on the table.
