Milo stayed in a small cottage near the seaside. He wanted warm soup for lunch. A single potato waited on the wooden table. Bright morning light filled the quiet kitchen. He set a deep pot beside the potato. He grabbed his short knife to chop the potato. The knife touched the hard oak cutting board. The board slid over a grain of salt.

The sudden slide shocked Milo and nudged the potato away. It rolled across the smooth stone floor. Milo ran after it, but his foot hit the pot. The empty pot clanged and bounced toward the open door. Wind from the seaside pushed the door wider. Sand blew in and covered the floor. Milo stopped, closed the door, and gathered each piece. He washed the potato, steadied the oak board, then chopped. Slices fell into the pot and rested above the fire. Tiny bubbles rose as Milo watched the quiet water. Finally, he placed the metal lid on top. Soft steam slipped around the rim.
