The Sudden Splash- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light fell between tall pines. Mia carried a small camera into the forest. She wanted one clear picture of a bright kingfisher. A narrow stream waited beyond thick ferns. She stepped with quiet shoes over soft moss. Water showed quick silver lines under low branches. She paused when a twig cracked behind her. Nothing moved, so she walked on.

At the stream, the kingfisher sat on a rock. Mia lifted the camera and held her breath. Sudden drumming from a woodpecker burst through the trees. The sharp sound startled the kingfisher into quick escape. Its wings brushed a hanging branch above the water. Dry cones fell, striking a flat stone and rolling. One cone splashed into the stream and sent ripples. The bird circled once and landed again. Mia crouched lower behind a wet log for cover. She pressed the button and captured the still scene. She slipped the camera back into her bag.
