The sky is pale dawn. The air is cool. Milo the hedgehog walks. The ground holds wet leaves. Soft light fills gaps. A small bird hangs low. A vine grips one wing. The bird flaps but slips.

Milo steps under the bird. Spines press the green vine. The vine is thick. He pushes nine times. The knot still holds. Night clouds drift above. Stars shine behind them. He gathers a firm twig. He twists for ten breaths. The vine loosens at last. The bird drops on moss. Wings open and flutter. Feathers scatter small water. The moss smells fresh. The twig rolls downhill. Two small bodies stayed close.
