Soft morning light touched the stone fountain.

Elena reached the town festival before the morning crowds arrived. She carried a small wooden mask in her backpack. She wanted to paint it at the open workshop near the river. Booming drums repeated through the square in steady bursts. A dance team marched around the fountain with tall flags. Each march blocked the only narrow bridge across the stream. After four breaths, the bridge became clear and still. Then the dancers filled it again with bright fabric and steps. A classmate on the far bank lifted both arms. Elena watched one full cycle and counted the quiet seconds.

When the next calm moment came, Elena stepped onto the bridge. Damp wood forced her boots to slide, yet she balanced. A returning flag pole brushed her backpack and tipped forward. The pole hit a nearby stand of paint jars. Glass clinked, and bright blue rolled toward a blank canvas. Color splashed across the cloth in quick, uneven lines. The visiting artist jumped back, paint dots on his shoes. Elena reached the long table and set down her mask. Blue drops kept sliding over the new pattern on canvas. A slow drumbeat drifted across the water behind her.
