The Nut's Big Roll- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Milo placed a short stick on two smooth stones. He wanted to guide a round nut into the river. Cool water moved over small stones. A sandy breeze brushed his face as he crouched lower. He nudged the stick with one finger. The stick slipped forward and struck a loose pebble. The pebble hit a line of shells in a sharp row. Each shell tipped and tapped the next in quick rhythm. The final shell knocked a wooden spoon off a flat rock. The spoon fell onto the nut and sent it rolling.

The nut bounced down the slope toward the bright water. An otter popped from the river and watched the moving nut. Understanding the sudden motion, the animal slapped its tail hard. The splash pushed a floating branch across the nut’s path. The branch slowed the nut and stopped the shell rhythm. Water swirled around the branch and carried sand along. A thin stream curled beside the hills and kept sliding downstream.
