Spinning Lid, Sliding Batter-

English 原文
The fridge’s narrow LED threw a cool stripe across the kitchen tiles, glinting off the metal mixing bowl. Faye stood at the counter, whisking chocolate batter. A folded tea-towel, thick and supportive, cushioned the bowl. It stayed steady whenever her wrist changed rhythm. She filled the bowl almost to maximum and paused. Her understanding of how quickly batter could slide made her slow the whisk. Across the room, Ruby was caring for jars of dried basil near the window. She loosened each lid, shook the leaves, and then set the jars back. To test the seals, she spun one empty lid on the smooth wooden board. The lid whirled in a quick silver blur, gathering speed on its own.
The spinning lid drifted toward the counter edge, still humming softly. Ruby reached, but momentum carried the metal disk over the lip. It dropped, struck the tiled floor, bounced once, and collided with Faye’s shoe. The sudden knock nudged Faye’s hip; her elbow jerked, and a ribbon of batter poured across the board. Faye believed the spill would stop at the towel. The sticky wave kept sliding, now feeding the lid’s second roll across the floor. Both girls laughed aloud and shifted into quick action. Ruby angled a chopping board under the moving lid, slowing it without another bounce. Faye carefully slid the heavy bowl aside to safer tiles. The batter continued creeping slowly toward a cupboard handle. Faye let it go for a moment and turned toward the window. A brown sparrow fluttered against the screen, scattering tiny herb crumbs from the sill.
