What Freed the Boat?- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Glen watched his toy boat drift toward the garden bridge. Cool air moved across the narrow stream. Smooth stones formed the small walkway beside the water. The boat carried a blue flag made from paper. The boat spun once and stopped inside a dark hollow. He wanted the boat back before it sank or broke.

He found a straight stick beside the path. He reached over the rail and pushed the boat gently. Water stirred, mud lifted, and a hidden pebble rolled downstream. He tried to uplift the plank slightly with the stick. The stick slipped, and Glen pressed harder with persistent effort. A tiny gecko shot out from under the plank. Startled, Glen jerked the stick and bumped the boat free. The boat floated again, but now it turned toward the bank. Glen caught it with both hands and lifted it onto grass. The gecko clung to the damp plank while water kept rushing by. A slow ripple spread across the clear surface downstream.
