Threads of Light Beneath the Bubbles-

English 原文
Fine rings of dust had gathered around the base of the glass before Sam finally noticed the rainbow leaking from it. The glass, three-quarters full of tap water, stood on the warm sill like a tiny reservoir and released a faint metallic tang. A crescent of light hugged the rim where the meniscus curved, while bubbles inside carried up sharp, mineral bursts of smell. On the counter behind him, a mug of mint tea spread a soothing sweetness that blended with the sun-warmed dust. Dust motes hung in suspense within the broad beam of light, each revolving slower than drifting winter snowflakes. When a cloud slid across the sun the colours dimmed, yet once brightness returned the band stretched farther across the wall. Sam tipped his head; the spectrum now touched the skirting board, but its red edge remained several finger-widths too high.
He slid a chopping board onto the floor so the colours might land there, and its pine smell cut through metallic air. First, he nudged the glass a single centimetre left; violet leaped onto the board, but orange still floated beside it. Second, he folded a soapy dishcloth and wedged it under the cool base, tilting the little reservoir by a degree. The rainbow widened, yet yellow missed the board, sliding across bare floorboards like spilled paint. He hesitated, then tapped the glass to shake loose the bubbles; as they rose, the band broke into dozens of tiny streaks. Those colours, he saw, had been splintered by the bubbles into secret strands never visible from a distance. If the sun drifted any lower, the bright bridge would slide away, so he gave the glass one more careful push. Red, orange, and yellow finally stacked together across the board, and Sam exhaled through the mint steam from his forgotten mug. A sparrow outside the pane hopped along the sill as Sam steadied the tilted glass with two fingers.
