What taps my shoe?
I stand still in the garden.
Morning light glows pale yellow.
A dry leaf slides on.
It lifts from the alley gap.
The leaf rests over my toe.
A whiskered cat creeps near.
Its soft tail brushes my ankle.
The cat stares, then walks on.
Two sparrows talk above the gate.
Feathers drift onto my shoulder.
A thin burr holds my sleeve.
Tiny hooks pinch the fabric lightly.
Wind shakes a forgotten broom nearby.
One loose bristle floats toward me.
The bristle lands across my wrist.
I watch every small visitor arrive.
Footsteps sound; the cat trots away.
The garden stays busy around me.
