Warm wood presses under my palm. I stand near the pond. I see a muddy paw print. Sunlight dries the wet edge. The dark mark grows pale. A faint earthy smell lifts. A tiny plant droops beside the bench.

On the play cabin wall, paint peels. A small fox picture sits there. Bright light bleaches its orange coat. Tiny flakes drift onto the grass. A faded grey den surrounds it. Two pale lines join above whiskers. I look back at the print. Only a light smudge remains. Wood grain shows through the spot. The fox picture almost disappears now. Plain brown cabin wood stays. A duck paddles away across water.
