Pebble Splash in the Yard Puddle- 適合初學者的英語短篇故事

Plip sound! A fat drip lands from the roof edge. Water rings. Soft sun warms the step. A shallow yard puddle ripples below. Esme stands in bright boots. She holds a flat stone. She walks around the edge. She drops the stone. The stone sinks with a tiny pop. A small metal spring glints near the wooden step. A folded play tent leans against the brick wall. Beyond the fence, a green field lies under pale sun.

Esme spots a round pebble near the drain. She taps it with her toe. She gives one quick kick. The pebble rolls and slides into the big puddle. Splash! Cold drops jump onto her sleeves. “Big wave!” Esme says. The grown-up in the doorway nods. Drips still fall in slow rhythm. Echo rings under the gate. Esme crouches. She lifts a floating red leaf. She sets it free again. The wide puddle mirrors the sky and holds still.

噗通！屋簷邊掉下一大滴水，水面發出環狀波紋。柔和的陽光照在木階上。院子裡一個淺淺的水窪微微起伏。艾絲梅穿著亮色雨靴站著，手裡拿著一塊扁石。她繞著水邊走，然後把石塊放下，石塊「啵」一聲沉入水中。木階旁閃著一小段金屬彈簧。牆邊靠著一頂收起的兒童帳篷。籬笆外，一片綠色草地靜靜延伸在淡陽光下。

艾絲梅在排水口旁看到一顆圓卵石。她用腳尖輕點，再快速踢一下。卵石滾進大水窪，濺起水花！冰涼的水滴跳到她的袖子上。「大浪！」艾絲梅說。門口的大人點點頭。水滴仍慢慢落下，籬笆下方傳來迴響。艾絲梅蹲下，撿起一片漂浮的紅葉，又把它放回水面。寬大的水窪映著天空，靜靜保持平滑。
