On the window glass, a pale fog rests. Toast scent drifts from the counter. Steam lifts.
Rhea leans on the smooth sill. Her nose nears the glass. Low on the pane, faint hand marks stay. Joy sits in the quiet room.
A small bird pecks a seed. Birds wait. The feeder tips a little under it. Rhea stops to lean left. The fog sits halfway across her view.
Outside, the uncle starts to tie a soft string. The rope steadies; the feeder shifts less. Rhea leans to ask the uncle. "What bird is that?" He says, "I see a small beak." "It hops on the ledge."
She looks back at the glass. The fog patch grows thinner near her breath. A faint bird shape rests on the pane. It is only the reflection. On the window glass, that soft shape steadies.
