Tess peers at the bright strip by the flap. Dust floats. Light falls. She makes a small hop closer. The grandmother sits on the low stool. Her fingers rest on the mug handle. "It is bright here," the grandmother says.

The flap sags, and the strip dims. Tess lifts the canvas flap with one hand. She gives the edge a tiny shake. The small wooden frame is strong. A pale circle rests on the window pane. It sits near the frame seam.

Tess holds the flap a little. Dust hangs in the strip again. She lowers the flap to its place. The soft flap hangs still.
