English 原文
Mira balanced a rolled poster under her arm while crossing the courtyard of Westbrook High. The final bell hovered ten minutes away, and she wanted her display secured before the crowd poured through. Her project followed the slow evolution of coastal plants, each drawing carefully shaded the previous night. The diagrams had been printed by the art room’s worn plotter. Their edges curled outward like leaves seeking light. A gust cut across the paving stones, revealing the volatility of the spring afternoon. Flyers along the fence flapped, snatched at by invisible hands. She reached the display board, tape dispenser ready, shoulders tight against the wind.
Her first strip of tape snapped as soon as she pressed it down. The poster’s corner flipped back, gaining momentum with each new burst of air. If she had packed extra clips, the struggle would have ended quickly, yet her backpack offered only crumpled receipts. She borrowed a stapler from a passing student, but the mechanism had been jammed by a stray staple earlier that morning. While she dug it free, another burst unrolled the entire sheet, sending colored pages skating across the tiles. Knees met cold stone as she scrambled after them, palms patting scattered papers before the bell echoed over the courtyard.
One page slid beneath a bench, stopping beside a strand of abandoned kite string. Mira threaded the string through two small holes near the top border, then looped it around the metal lattice behind the board. The knot tightened. The wind tugged once, but the sheet held. That simple knot proved a significant counterweight against the restless air, and the poster finally lay smooth. The breakthrough arrived just as students spilled outside, their voices rising like sparrows at dawn. Paper edges no longer quivered, and colored roots and stems stood clear to any curious eye. The poster rested flat against the glass.
