A small turtle rolls over.
Its shell sinks into sand.
The desert is quiet.
The sun is warm.
Wide dunes stretch in every direction.
A young elephant walks near.
The elephant sees the turtle moving.
Sand slips around the shell.
The turtle waves short legs.
The elephant lowers its trunk.
It pushes the sandy shell.
The shell does not move.
The elephant lifts one foot.
Soft sand gives no grip.
A sudden wind passes by.
Fine grains hit the trunk.
The elephant blinks and steps back.
New sand piles under the turtle.
The elephant kneels beside the turtle.
It slips both tusks under.
Slowly it lifts the shell.
The turtle tips and lands upright.
Dust rises, then falls away.
The turtle crawls toward shade.
The vast desert stays quiet.
