A flat rock rests by the clear stream. Ulysses places wet clay on the rock. He pats the lump into a square slab. He presses a dry leaf on top. Litter drifts near the bank. The air is cool.

Selwyn crouches and watches. Ulysses says, "A little boat." He lifts the square slab gently. He forms a rim with care. Water glints; an ocean blue beetle passes. The clay boat slips into the current. It tilts. It sinks. Ulysses pauses and stares. He explains, "It needs balance." He adds a thin twig mast. A new leaf sail spreads. The boat now floats past the boot print. A fresh drip taps the flat rock.
