Plink, plink, plink goes the tap. Marisol walks to the counter. Warm light rests on flour dust. A soft voice hums near the plates. "La la," the grown-up sings. A small rosemary branch lies by butter. Marisol grips a glass jar. She twists the metal lid. It refuses to move. She taps the lid with a wooden spoon. The jar stays still.

Marisol visits the sink. A soap bubble drifts in slow motion. Water beads on the damp cloth. She wraps the cloth over the lid. Her small hands press. The cloth slips away. Marisol slides the rosemary branch under the rim. The lid turns a little. Marisol twists the lid again.
