What makes this small line?
Theo kneels on the window seat. His knees press the soft cushion. His toes press a small mat. His fingertip rests on the sill. Fine dust glows in grey light. A pale water ring sits there. Tiny paint flakes dot the frame. The curtain sways.
"I hear the rain," the grandfather says. The kettle ticks softly. Theo lifts the dry cloth. He wipes for a clear circle. Fog covers the glass inside. His tongue peeks out a little. He rubs one slow round. A clear rim opens on fog.
A small bird flicks past. It hops once. It lifts from a high branch. Dark bark lines show behind it. Theo leans close to the ring. Dust settles near the pale ring. He leaves the cloth on the sill. The clear circle slowly mists over.
