A teacup clinks as Niles tugs a stuck book.

A clean laundry smell fills the room.

Keira kneels on the rug. Her body leans close to the shelf. Her palm rests on the shelf edge grain. The pillow still holds deep night lines.

Needles click outside the door. The curtain edge hangs slack and sways. Keira slides one book to make space. "It is stuck," Niles says. She lifts the small book a little.

Keira sets both hands and lifts more. The book slides free from the row. A round wooden block drops down and clacks. It rolls.

Niles shows a small smile. He holds the book on his chest now. Dust glows in the sunbeam near the rug dent. Again, she lifts.
