Morning light filled the quiet stable.
A young sheep stood near the wooden gate.
Fresh scent drifted from an elm branch outside the fence.
The branch lay green and low beside dusty stones.
Beyond the fence, roofs of the village showed through mist.
The sheep lowered its head and pushed the gate bar.
Metal scraped, but the bar only rattled in place.
The sheep stepped back and kicked the gate harder.
A hanging bucket shook, tipped, and spilled cold water.
Water splashed across straw, then streamed under the gate.
Wet straw became slick; the sheep slid forward unexpectedly.
The gate swung open as the weight pressed against it.
Wool brushed the elm leaves now scattered on the path.
A tall crane rose from behind the branch, wings wide.
The sheep froze; its ears stood straight.
The crane flapped once and glided toward the silent village.
Leaves drifted down, and the sheep began to chew.
Water kept running, forming a small pool near the gate.
The sheep stepped aside, hooves splashing softly.
