Cat Paw on the Misfit Piece-

English 原文
"Pass me that corner piece," Lyle said.
He stretched across the felt, and a tabby cat hopped onto the empty chair, its paws wobbling for balance. Odette, opposite him, slid the requested piece along the mat; the cardboard met the felt with barely any friction. A shallow dish beside the lamp held tamarind sweets that trembled whenever the table creaked under shifting weight. Afternoon sunlight cut a slice across Odette’s wrist, warming the skin that guided sky-blue edges into neat lines. Lyle had already shaped a right angle, and the corner pressed in smoothly, expressing a hiss of trapped air. One sky piece had been placed on the wrong edge earlier, and its different shade now looked obvious beside the brighter group.
Lyle nudged his chair forward, knees brushing carpet, and reached into the thinning middle band for a broad blue tab. Odette’s hand moved at the same moment; their elbows touched, and the vibration loosened three meadow pieces near her border. The cat flinched, its tail flicking across Lyle’s assembled corner, and one piece tipped, hanging like a tiny ledge. If the cat were any heavier, the table would tilt slightly off its square legs. He steadied the loose bit with a fingertip, yet the blue tab he examined slotted perfectly into his sky section. As the piece settled, friction rose along the border, and Odette’s meadow path no longer accepted the curved grass piece. A silent choice hovered: shift his fresh success or dismantle her carefully growing scene entirely. He inhaled, shoulders tightening, then lifted the blue tab back out, letting Odette press her meadow curve into the waiting gap.
The removed tab sat among loose pieces, but its colour still matched the sky, and Lyle examined its back against the felt. Under pressure, one corner rocked upward; the cardboard was a shade thicker than its neighbours, an impostor from another puzzle. The cat pressed a paw onto the tab, proving the tilt with a clearer wobble, as if demonstrating the hidden mistake. Tension tightened Lyle’s back, yet a looseness uncoiled along his arms once the puzzle’s flaw became unmistakable. He swapped the impostor with the curved grass piece, aligning both sections; a narrow seam still showed, but edges flowed almost smoothly. A hairline gap remained where blue met green, catching a thin thread of warm lamplight across the cardboard. Lyle nudged the impostor piece toward the cat, and it batted the stiff cardboard under the tamarind dish.
