Orange Tin and Wren on the Low Rope Bridge-

English 原文
A crisp tap rattled across the rope bridge, like a spoon on a wooden bowl. The sound came from a chestnut wren pecking the handrail just beside Helena’s stepping-off stone. She placed one rubber boot onto the first plank, feeling it dip while golden sunlight slid between the finger-wide gaps. Dew drops glittered on the plank edges, ready to evaporate once the morning heat strengthened. With her free hand she held a tin half full of rinse water from Mae’s paint set; the surface already swirled orange. The tin had been filled at the near bank, and its rim had been wiped clean with a cloth. Mae waited behind the anchor post and called, “Steady, the bridge breathes today!”
Halfway across, a sudden gust rolled along the channel and made the suspended planks swing in a wide, slow arc. Orange liquid lapped the tin’s rim, ready to dissolve more pigment and leap through the gaps onto the pebbles. Helena pressed both palms around the metal, taming the slosh in one decisive squeeze. The grip solved the wobble inside the tin, yet her elbows could not reach the rope, so her stance loosened. A plank tipped sideways, and clear water splashed upward, soaking her left boot and darkening the canvas like wet bark. “That splash reached me, Helena!” Mae laughed from the bank, shaking a pebble off her sleeve. Helena adjusted her feet and noticed the wren still pecking, a loose hemp fibre beginning to unravel beneath its beak.
The dangling strand gave her an insight: the bird gathered threads, not insects, and the bridge offered ready nesting material. She tilted the tin forward, letting a deliberate ribbon of orange water trickle through a gap as a small offering to the rushing stream. The tin grew lighter; coloured eddies swirled below, then drifted downstream while remaining water stayed calm inside the cup. She braced one hand on the warm rope, balanced the tin beneath her chin, and walked the final planks to the far stone. Behind her, the bridge rocked once, sent a faint shiver along the ropes, and then settled again. Hours later, sunlight lay flat across the empty span, and evaporated droplets left pale rings on several centre planks. The wren returned, seized the partly freed fibre, and sprang into the alder branches with the strand clamped firmly in its beak.
